About BrightFit

Discover the vision and passion behind our brand from the journey of our founder.

Why BrightFit?

BrightFit Prep was built as a deliberate alternative to the mass-market admissions factories that dominate social media with flashy ads, aggressive sales funnels, and one-size-fits-all “packages.” You know the type...hundreds of consultants, high turnover, endless upsells, and promises that feel more like marketing than mentorship.

We’re the opposite.

BrightFit is an exclusive, research-driven boutique advisory firm that accepts only a small number of students each year. Our work is individualized, strategic, and grounded in higher-education scholarship, not scripts, quotas, or assembly-line editing.

"It’s not just about where you’re going, but who you’re becoming."

Our founder and principal advisor, Joann, began her admissions career at UCLA, where she gained behind-the-scenes insight into how selective universities evaluate applicants. She later refined and elevated her expertise at Harvard, conducting graduate research on educational pathways, institutional decision-making, and the behavioral patterns that shape elite admissions outcomes.
This uncommon combination of admissions experience and academic rigor forms the foundation of her analytical, discerning, and deeply strategic approach, one that few consultants in the industry can match. Joann is particularly sought after for her expertise with student-athletes, providing tailored guidance that aligns competitive athletic profiles with the expectations of top-tier universities. Currently, she also serves as a Research Fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government (Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government), contributing to research at the intersection of education, opportunity, and institutional decision-making at the highest levels.

While BrightFit's remains intentionally small and waitlist-only, Joann maintains a commitment to expanding opportunity for high-potential students from underserved backgrounds through the BrightFit Scholars Program.
